Hull Wyke under 8s were invited to Eastmoor’s fun day on Saturday, coaches and players were looking forward to a new challenge.
The first game was against the hosts Eastmoor dragons who started the game on fire scoring two quick tries, our boys seemed to struggle with the slight difference in rules and there been a referee on the pitch at first.
However after half time the boys slowly came into the game with tries from Lennie Clark and James Farrar. The line speed got better as well with great tackles from Ashton Booth, Jacob Hill, Dylan Yeaman and Ben Johnson.
The game finished with us finishing strong but having just lost leaving us with a game to play against Odsal for a place in the final the game started strongly for Wyke lead by Elliot Johnson whose running was strong all afternoon, this soon led to tries by Elliot, Joe Wood and Will Kirby.
Jay Kirby rang the ball in with power all game and worried there defence all game. Dylan Yeaman worked as hard as I have ever seen in this game and got better with each drive he made.
This victory left us with an hour break before we played the final against Eastmoor dragons, during the break there was a sprint race which was represented by each teams 2 fastest players.
The race was won by Hull Wyke’s James Farrar and second was our Joe Wood not a bad result.
So on to the final, a team talk was had about the rules and been able to handle a referee and a promise that the player with the great effort award would win a ball paid for by Paul, Nikki and phil(more on that later).
Wyke started like a house on fire the line speed could not have been any quicker stopping Eastmoor's fast players in the first 3 sets.
While quickly making plenty of yards by Elliot Johnson, Joe Wood and Will Kirby which lead to a try for James Farrar. Again Eastmoor attacked our line but were held off by tackling from Dylan Yeaman.
We then made the hard yards up the field with Jay Kirby, which should of lead to a try for Jacob Hill from a pass by Ben Johnson but the referee harshly judged it to be a forward pass.
All the yards we made were helped by great passing from dummy half were Ashton booth had a storming tournament.
We finished the game with a try from Lennie Clark leaving the game at a draw 3 all.
Leaving coaches of both teams very happy but having to pick our great effort award, after 30 minutes no decision could be made so all players ended up getting a ball and leaving the coaches a bit lighter in the pocket.
Well done again boys and remember always play with a smile on your face.
Great effort award.
