What promised to be Wyke under 12s biggest test so far this year turned out to be just that.
Against a decent West Hull side Wyke looked strong and again their defence was a cornerstone of this performance.
Wyke went in to West Hull's half coming up first with a nice chip from Johnson to the corner for Kieran Broom to touch down, unconverted by Addison, the same play very nearly paid off again as this time Gabriel Marhino just failed to reach the ball.
Then moments later Broom who had his best game for a while put in a neat grubber kick and chased it, when the referee arrived he disallowed the touchdown.
What happened next summed up wyke's day as Wests caught out the wyke defence and made a break a quick play the ball and the a forward bursting on to the ball to score under the posts, the conversion made game 6-4.
A couple of minutes later and after what should have been a very easily spotted knock on wests were in again.
HT 10- 4.
The second half started with Wyke looking more than a match for wests.
The effort was not in question but the clinical finishing and patience was.
Wyke kept plugging away but momentum was lost with poor decisions and poor positional awareness. Wyke once again found their way over the west line through Thomas again for the referee to arrive and disallow the try.
However, Wyke did manage to drag themselves back into the game when Driver scored, but once again the kick was too far out to be converted. the score now was 10-8
Wests went back up field and hammered at wykes line but they held firm and got the ball. Somehow the ball was lost in the tackle several times but play was waived on.
One of these occasions was 20meters out and a scrum was given to west who with good quick hands scored the winning try with ten minutes to go.
Well done to wests who edged the day with good team performance.
To wyke, lessons are still to be learned and they are learning the hard way.
