Hull Wyke under 12s won at Cropton road on Sunday morning but were made to work for the win by a stubborn Beverley Braves side.
A complete lack of discipline and respect for the opposition led to some poor play from the home side who thought they had this game won before they had earned the right.
Beverley showed they are a capable team and gave the home side some food for thought with a simple but effective game plan.
Wyke got the scoring under way through a Jack Cone try converted by Jack Addison, but mistakes were already becoming feature of the game and although Wyke defended well enough it was probably that aspect of their
play that saw them home.
All too many times Wyke players were being tackled into touch through running their teammates out and thinking that they could easily beat their opposite number without having to use the ball or their teammates!
Beverley were far to good for this poor play to work and after a great individual score from Jack Addison that went unconverted the away team started to grow in confidence and scored for a half time scoreline of
Hull Wyke 10 - Beverley Braves 4.
The second half started with more errors and though the weather may have played a part it has to be said that it was a lot better than of late.
Beverley took the lead early in second half with a penalty try and the rest of the half was frustrating to watch as the home side players reverted back to their bad old habit's of only playing for themselves.
Again it was Wyke's tackling that kept them in it and Jack Cone who had a mixed game which saw him score two great individual tries and almost saw him get sent off in the first half raced away to score under the posts after picking a loose ball on halfway.
Cone then converted his own try and Wyke were left to play out a nervy last five minutes before securing the win. A special mention must go to Jack Addison who was superb in defence.
A win's a win!
Well played both teams.
