The U7 team was depleted due to holidays, so we were joined by two players from the U6’s and a player from the opposition.
The game started with a swift try from Simeon from the U6’s, and as Dockers took the ball strong tackling got underway from, amongst others, Regan, Kieran, William and Sam. However Dockers managed to scale the line on the last tackle, evening the score quickly.
William took the ball in with his usual trademark dodging, gaining ground so that Ben from the U6’s could follow his team mate with a try. Tackling continued from Regan, Liam, and Nathan, but Dockers were able to offload with skill and pushed through for another try.
Liam ran in, followed by Regan searching for gaps in the defence. Sam charged through and Nathan made good ground, but we were not matching the opposition with our offloads and didn’t quite make enough ground to score.
Sam showed us the first of many crashing tackles, but Dockers managed to break free and score again from a pitch-length run. As Wyke took possession again, there were good runs from Ben, William, Sam and Nathan who tried his hardest to push through and gained ground allowing Kieran to score Hull Wyke’s third try. This evened the score line temporarily, but following a determined tackle from Nathan, Dockers offloaded the ball superbly to run down the wing, score and pull ahead again.
Although our passing improved as the first half drew to a close, it ended with Hull Wyke defending on the line and just managing to keep Dockers out as the whistle blew.
The second half did not start well for Wyke as Dockers scored straight away, however the fighting spirit continued with good runs from Simeon, Liam and William, and a swift try from Regan. Sam’s tackling stepped up in this half as he continually met the opposition with determination. Then a try from Simeon for Hull Wyke was followed by two easy tries for Dockers.
Simeon scored again before the game ended, but Dockers squeezed in one more, with the final scoreline 9 points to 6 in their favour.
