Skirlaugh started by making a sprint down the wing only to be chased and grounded by William . They continued to push but were halted at every chance by strong tackling by Nathan , Sam and Jo and a superb goal line stops by Robbie and Liam. Wyke responded with a swift two move try with a 30 m dash from William and an awesome run from Kieran to notch up his first try of the season.
Skirlaugh were kept out again by Wyke holding their line with grounding tackles from Sam and Morgan and great defence from Kieran whose determination and strength is proving him to be a dynamic player.
Skirlaugh’ scored but Wyke rallied together which resulted in another impressive try with Sam, Robbie, Niam and Liam showing their usual determination to drive the ball forward but it was Morgan who sped down the pitch and could only be stopped by the opposition’s full team just before the goal line and Kieran bagged a second by pushing over the line.
A third came, with fabulous side stepping from Nathan , Robbie offloaded to Sam who took the ball over. Skirlaugh came back with a second but Wyke answered with a powerful run from Kieran and a great run from Nippy Niam who notched up a fourth for Wyke.
Crunching tackles from Liam, Nathan and Morgan stopped Skirlaugh in their tracks again. The first half ended at 5 – 2 to Wkye after William dodged the opposition to score with a pitch length sprint.
Skirlaugh came back in the second half determined to even out the score line and recouped a couple of tries with set moves that showed their experience at passing.
However, Wyke’s disciplined defence resumed and denied any more with Skirlaugh finding it difficult to get near the goal line. Wyke kept attacking with notable runs from Morgan, Kieran and William and Niam who darted 20 m to be robbed on the line. Liam was also denied after making a run from deep to be brought down harshly a metre from the line.
As the final whistle blew, Wyke were ahead by 5 tries to 4.
