Haworth started off the match with a drive towards Wyke’s line. However, strong try line tackling by Joe, Liam, Robbie and Niam, kept Haworth off the score board. Wyke’s 1st drive resulted in a try for Billy, following a swerving sprint down the touch line by William. The next drive by Haworth also resulted in them being kept out again, by ferocious goal line tackling by the team, with Regan, Morgan, Nathan and Billy all making crucial last ditch tackles, to stop the opposition getting over the line.
Then tries were traded by both teams, with Billy bagging a hat-tick before halftime with his typical strong direct running and also a darting run from Niam, resulting in an excellent score.
The half time score was Wyke 4 – 3 Haworth.
In the 2nd half Haworth came out with a different attitude and game plan and crossed Wyke’s line regularly with fine runs from deep. Nevertheless, Wyke’s determination to try and equalise the game did not fade with excellent runs from Morgan, Liam, Niam, William` and Nathan, which resulted in further tries for Billy who managed an impressive 5 tries in the match – a record for this season. Also the lads tried too offload and pass the ball at every opportunity, with Joe and Morgan especially showing off their ball handling skills.
Despite swift attacks by Haworth, which put Wyke on the back foot for much of the 2nd half, Wyke still persevered in defence with great tackles made by Regan and Robbie, to keep Haworth at bay, when they looked like adding to their total.
After a closely fought contest, in which both teams gave there all, Haworth edged the match 8- 6 .
