Hull Wyke’s defence proved impenetrable to the end, with every team member contributing throughout.
Both sides tackled strongly as the first half progressed – neither team allowing opposition players to cross their line in the early exchanges, with Regan Sullivan and William Kynman leading the line with some strong tackling. Niam O'Grady nearly scored the first try of the game along the wing, however it was Billy Rex who eventually managed to break free and open the scoring for Wyke with a great individual try. This was followed by another Wyke try as Tyler Leighton dodged through the West Hull defence. The third score soon followed as Tyler threw out a swift pass to the supporting Charlie Barker with a flowing length of the pitch move for the try of the game, just before the first half ended.
West Hull stepped up the defence even further in the second half, and Wyke were barely able to get out of their own half. However, the Wyke boys showed no signs of tiring and their own defence was phenomenal as they defended on their line over and over, preventing the opposition from scoring. Wyke’s lead increased with the Leighton-Barker partnership materialising once again for a great try in the corner. Hull Wyke were penned their own 20 metres, however Finlay Rex, Sam Lawson and Billy Fenby gave everything to help the team get out of trouble with some strong runs. The win was finally cemented by a try from Kieran Masike late in the second half.
