Although still in the early stage of the season, Hull Wyke ‘Blues’ put in an awesome performance with brilliant tackling and a defensive line that was at times almost impenetrable.
As the match kicked off, the team combined to keep Skirlaugh away from the line in the first set, with strong tackling from dynamic new duo Finley and Billy Rex, and the same from Sam Lawson and James Abdul. In the attack, the team demonstrated their improving passing skills, culminating in a nifty try from Tyler Leaighton.
We maintained the defence throughout most of this half, with the whole team playing a part, and notable efforts from Liam, Tyler Leaighton, William Kynman and Morgan Taft. Skirlaugh did eventually find a gap to join the score sheet, but we managed to pull ahead again with impressive passing along the line from Tyler, to William to Nathan Belcher, who sailed over just before the whistle.
Morgan Taft picked up the ball in the second half, with swift offloads to Will, then to Billy who gained ground immediately, but was unable to reach the line. We maintained our defence, in spite of losing a player to injury, but were starting to tire a little, not quite managing to score again and allowing in two more tries in the fifth tackle.
Although Skirlaugh just pipped ahead by the end, this was an enjoyable, and evenly matched game between two strong defensive teams.
